Shield and Cloak - Prelude to the Journey

Distanced from the rest of the world for tens of thousands of years, the Aboriginal people of Australia developed a rich cultural and spiritual life that enabled them to sustain themselves and form an intimate relationship with their often harsh and dry home land. All this would change dramatically with the arrival of the British convicts and settlers. The Aboriginal people would be violently dispossessed of their lands, be forced to live highly regulated lives and often have their children removed from their care.
